Best Canadian Finance Podcasts

Written by: Kyle Prevost

The best personal finance podcasts in Canada don’t insult your intelligence or try to sell you something. They aren’t created by self-appointed “fin-fluencers” trying to gain followers while promoting the next “silver bullet” fad.

The Canadian podcast and YouTube world is rapidly filling up with marketing fluff disguised as “money talk”. That said, there are also a select few excellent, no-nonsense pods that will treat your earbuds to insightful & actionable advice, practical strategies, and honest conversations about finance in Canada.

Whether you’re just getting started with an online brokerage, wondering about dividend stocks, or looking into advanced strategies for an RRSP or TFSA withdrawal strategy in retirement – I’ve got you covered.

These are podcasts created by some of the best financial advisors in Canada, as well as financial researchers, chartered analysts, and ultra-successful DIY investors (not some random bro trying to sell you a Bitcoin course). And if you’re wondering what makes me qualified to rank the best financial podcasts in Canada, I’m going to not-so-humbly point out that I was a bit of a pioneer in the space.

While I cringe at the rookie-level sound editing from the initial episodes of The More Money for Beer and Textbooks Podcast, it’s safe to say that back in 2013, I was into podcasts, “before they were cool.” True, I only lasted 32 episodes, but it was a pretty great learning experience. I got to talk to a ton of great people and learn firsthand from their experience and research. In fact, the only podcast on this list that was around when I started was Preet’s More Money pod. I’ve watched many Canadian financial podcasts come and go since I tried my hand 12 years ago – but the list below has withstood the test of time!

Overall Best Personal Finance Podcast for Canadians

Podcast: Rational Reminder
Hosts: Benjamin Felix & (PWL Capital Team)

If you only have room for one Canadian finance podcast in your feed, make it this one. Rational Reminder is a weekly conversation about evidence-based investing, financial planning, and behavioural finance — all delivered by two professional portfolio managers who walk the talk.

Ben Felix breaks down academic research, interview global thought leaders, and answer listener questions with an ultra-rational (and refreshingly hype-free) tone. While Cameron Passmore and Mark McGrath were key contributors to this podcast until quite recently, it’s now co-hosted by Felix and Dan Bortolotti (better known as the Canadian Couch Potato).

The depth of the research and the consistent quality of the guests make this show two notches above the usual, “just think positive about money and count your pennies” stuff that you can get anywhere.

Best Canadian Investing Podcast

Podcast: Build Wealth Canada
Host: Kornel Szrejber

Kornel is a DIY investor turned podcast host and conference organizer, and he’s earned the respect of the Canadian investing community through deep, practical conversations. I should admit upfront that I’m a bit biased because Kornel is a personal friend that co-hosted the Canadian Financial Summit several times with me over the years. Build Wealth Canada blends personal stories, investing strategies, and interviews with leading Canadian experts — with an emphasis on FIRE, passive investing, and real estate.

What makes this podcast stand out is Kornel’s ability to ask detailed, specific questions that actually get real answers. Build Wealth Canada is the most popular Canadian financial podcast last I checked, and Kornel doesn’t produce fluff episodes just to get content out the door. I highly recommend checking out his back catalogue. You’ll even find a few episodes in there from a certain friendly-if-awkward former teacher ;)

Kornel’s engineering background comes through in quest for detailed analysis. He speaks from personal experience as someone who has been there and done that when it comes to creating financial independence through DIY investing.

Best Canadian Money Podcast for Beginners

Podcast: Moolala: Money Made Simple
Host: Bruce Sellery

Bruce Sellery is a gifted talker who takes complex money topics and delivers them in punchy, digestible segments. He’s been doing this for over 20 years and still brings energy and clarity that’s hard to match.

Each episode covers multiple segments with different guests, so even if one topic isn’t relevant to you, another probably will be. Bruce focuses a lot more on everyday-money and consumer-awareness type of stuff than Felix’s Rational Reminder. Less “deep dive,” more introduction to money topics.

Best Dividend Investing Podcast for Canadians

Podcast: The Dividend Guy Blog Podcast
Host: Mike Heroux (CPA, ex-financial advisor)

If you’re building a dividend portfolio – or thinking about shifting into income-producing stocks  – this is where you want to be. Mike Heroux has been writing about dividend investing for close to two decades and now hosts the most in-depth dividend-focused podcasts in Canada. Between Mike’s podcast, his Youtube channel, and his Dividend Stocks Rock platform, the amount of high-quality content he puts out is pretty incredible.

Each week, Mike and his co-host Vero dive into real portfolios, real companies, and real strategies. No fluff, no excuses, just high-quality investing insights from someone who’s been through market booms and busts.

Mike’s fluency with both Canadian and US markets is quite unique, and his prism of examining stocks through his “Dividend Triangle” is the perfect level of analysis for most DIY investors.

Lifetime Achievement Canadian Finance Podcast

Podcast: Mostly Money
Host: Preet Banerjee

Preet is one of the most respected voices in Canadian finance. He brings both professional experience and elite academic research chops to the table. Mostly Money blends economics, behavioural finance, and smart interviews in a way that consistently adds value.

Don’t expect short episodes – Preet lets conversations breathe, and the result is nuanced, insight-rich content that respects your time and your intelligence. I admire Preet’s genuine curiosity and personal connection to his guests – he’s not just trying to get through an interview to hit publish.

Now the only downside when it comes to Mostly Money (formerly called Mostly Canadian, Mostly Money) is that Preet doesn’t release new episodes all that often. That said, I thoroughly recommend looking through the back catalogue that he painstakingly put together over the years.

Best Finance Podcast for Financial Professionals

Podcast: The Canadian Moneysaver Podcast
Hosts: Ellen Roseman and Lana Sanichar

This isn’t a flashy podcast with a bunch of bells and whistles, but it might be the most underrated gem on this list. If you’ve been reading Canadian MoneySaver magazine for years, you’ll feel right at home. Topics lean more technical, with lots of emphasis on tax optimization, estate planning, and long-term portfolio strategy.

This one’s for the DIY investors who love the weeds, or the financial planners who need to stay sharp.

Best International Financial Podcast for Canadian Listeners

Podcast: ChooseFI
Hosts: Brad Barrett & Jonathan Mendonsa

While it’s based in the U.S., ChooseFI earns a spot on this list for one simple reason: it’s influenced a generation of Canadian FIRE followers. Many of the strategies — like index investing, geo-arbitrage, or tax efficiency — are still very relevant north of the border.

I figured it was worth having a “best of the rest” section when it came to personal finance listening. While I’m partial to Canadian personal finance courses, the first 30-40 episodes of ChooseFI are an incredible resource, and probably more valuable than the recent episodes. They can help form an excellent foundation for financial independence (FI), and the production quality is probably the best of the shows on this list.

Just keep your Canadian translations handy so that you instantly know 401Ks or Roth IRAs loosely translate to RRSPs and TFSAs.

Only So Many Podcasting Hours…

There’s no shortage of personal finance podcasts out there. But if you’ve ever made it five minutes into an episode only to be hit with a reheated press release, a glorified sales funnel, or some influencer spouting off about “manifesting abundance” — you know how rare it is to find something actually worth your time.

That’s why I felt compelled to create this list.

These are the podcasts I actually recommend to friends. They’re hosted by people who’ve either worked in the trenches of financial planning, spent years analyzing the markets, or have real skin in the game as investors themselves. They’re not reading headlines or chasing clickbait.

They also respect your intelligence as a listener and don’t try to toss up empty episodes just to say that they’ve reached an arbitrarily-high overall number. There are several pretty high-ranking Canadian financial podcasts that I frankly don’t care for at all because they’re just so full of fluff and super-basic “believe in yourself and attract money” type of stuff.

If you want to optimize your commute to work or morning dog walk, plug a few of the top Canadian financial podcasts into your queue and soak in the wisdom. The right voices have a way of shifting not only how you think about your money, but can also inspire you to take action sooner rather than later.
